Improv@Work

I was warned by my Cleveland, OH client that the team they were hiring me to work with had a collective form of ADHD. That is to say, focus was an issue and they were hoping the workshop could address that.
The issue? Goodness gracious, it sounded like an obstacle just for the workshop.
First things first, I decided I would have to construct the curriculum very carefully and make certain that I alternated exercises as much as possible so that I could keep everyone's attention as I moved through the 2-hour session. A well constructed improv class alternates between up on your feet games and seated exercises. But it also alternates between kinetic exercises and cerebral exercises, quiet exercises and loud exercises, stationary exercises and highly physical exercises.
I made certain that the curriculum mixed these elements as much as possible in it’s construction.
But I also wanted exercises that would reward focus and attention. An obvious one was Connections, a game that asks it’s participants to create three repeating verbal patterns and then run all three simultaneously while completing an arbitrary physical task. This is the go to improv game for focus because it is truly joyous and will get you laughing for certain.
Maybe less joyful but just as impactful is the improv listening exercise, Repeat, Reword, Say Why. A great game for working on hearing not just the words but their meaning and emotional underpinnings as well.
The workshop went great and if that team had collective ADHD, I couldn’t tell.

Other Cleveland Improv Spots!
I am happy to report that Cleveland improv is alive and well thanks to a few well named and well intentioned Cleveland improv theaters offering improv classes and hilarious shows of the alternative comedy kind!
In easy proximity to Playhouse Square, this fantastically named hub for all things improv comedy (improv classes, shows, improv team building) is where you should head if looking for improv corporate training.
Focused on stand up shows, this organization nonetheless has a fantastic name and can cobble together an improv class or improv for business workshop for corporate clients near or around the Cleveland Museum of Art in University Circle.
