A Client Story

Improv Class Dallas, improv theater, improv theater Dallas, improv workshops for business

A Dallas client hired The Radical Agreement Project to lead an improv class aimed at honing listening skills for their annual summit. They explained that their annual summit was more of a celebratory get together than a hard business summit. Still they wanted to do some professional development at it.

Wrinkle: There was going to be lots of food and drink over the three days of the summit, especially alcoholic drinks. I had sent my client RA's blog post on best practices when preparing for a workshop with us. My client had some thoughts they wanted to share with me regarding the post.

Once we got on the phone, it became clear that most of my clients thoughts centered on alcohol consumption. I remember I had sent them the blog post on a Friday and we spoke that Monday. My client explained that the company culture was supportive of drinking and possibly even drinking to excess.

Would it be okay for people who were drunk to be in the workshops?

The answer to that question, of course, is No. I wish it was Yes! it sounds like so much fun!

I wish I could say that you could get drunk and then take an improv workshop and hone critical soft skills without ruining the worksop for all other attendees. But years of experience have taught me that improv classes and alcohol don't mix.

The simple truth is that after two beers people's ability to participate in and learn from improv comedy exercises is greatly diminished. So I maintain a two drink maximum at my corporate events, a kind of odd variation on most comedy institutions two drink minimum. One or two beers can loosen you up and make a workplace improv event more fun.

Three to five drinks though? Well that can ruin the event and lead the imbiber to some pretty uncomfortable meetings with HR. That's why the two drink maximum is a good policy!

We serve the greater Dallas area, including Downtown Dallas, Uptown, Victory Park, Arts District, Design District, North Dallas, Preston Hollow, Las Colinas, Plano, Frisco, Richardson, Addison, Irving, Southlake

Other Dallas Improv Spots!

They say everything is bigger in Texas and I guess that is as true for improv classes as it is for the grass filled plains!

Dallas Comedy Club Training Center

Short form, long form, and musical improv all are embraced, performed and taught at this all in one improv hub. This is the spot for improv classes in Downtown Dallas!

Stomping Ground Comedy Theater & Training Center

The emphasis here is community first and comedy second, which is hard to believe when improv, sketch and stand up are all taught and performed!

Four Day Weekend

Classes and workshops are located in a church (probably the basement - classic!) and available for beginners. They do their shows at a theater, because they are traditional like that! If looking for anything related to Dallas improv, give Four Day Weekend a chance.
