A Client Story

Just last month (May of 2024) I had a small Law Firm reach out to me about a team building event. This was an interesting one because they had a pretty small budget and they also were located in Pasadena which is a bit far for most of the improvisers I work with in the Los Angeles area.

That isn't to say that it's a problem I would gladly do work in Pasadena as frequently as it's required. But with a smaller budget it does make it difficult to figure out a way to find an instructor, pay for their gas and mileage and pay for their travel time to make it worth it for them to go teach the workshop when it's as far away as Pasadena (about an hour away from downtown LA).

In any case this organization was looking for a team building event. Some of their staff members have been a little grumpy lately and they wanted to get everybody back on the same page. At the same time, I had just heard from a fantastic improv instructor that they were looking to teach more corporate workshops. So I figured this was a match made in heaven.

Because the instructor that I ended up sending them is such a fun and engaging person I knew he would smooth over some of the bumps of grumpiness or dissatisfaction that the group was suffering from.

The other interesting thing about it was the organization wanted to host the event at their CEO's home and, weather permitting, they wanted to do it outside not inside. Now doing a workshop outside is kind of a tricky matter because you don't know if there's going to be heavy wind or other weather elements or other noises coming from other outside activities that maybe you're not in control of. The big concern for me when I do a workshop outside is maybe the instructor and also the attendees won't be able to be heard easily.

We settled the smaller budget issue (honestly) by having the client increase their budget a little bit and the instructor that I sent to them accepted a lower fee than normal because it was the first one he was doing with me in a long time. Plus the client offered the instructor and The Radical Agreement Project a backlink on their site to our respective sites. So that worked out!

We still had to figure out what to do about the outside venue. The solution was a tent. They arranged for an outside tent large enough for a workshop (at least 20 by 20 ft). Ultimately the tent provided a fun, beautiful and relaxing environment in which you could easily ear all participants!

We serve the greater Los Angeles area, including Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA), Century City, Westwood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Santa Monica, Burbank, Pasadena, Glendale, Long Beach, El Segundo, Irvine, Santa Clarita

Other Los Angeles Improv Spots!

This is LA baby, so there are more improv schools, theaters, institutions, podcast, collectives and labs (you name it) than can be listed. But here are some big ones.

The Groundlings

Maybe no LA improv theater is more LA than Will Ferrell's old stomping ground, The Groundlings. They offer extremely expensive and competitive classes, but if you can excel in those you might be knocking on the door to being big time.

The UCB Theatre

Home to some of the funniest improvisers and some of the most expensive improv classes on Earth, UCB is the place to be if you want to network while learning comedy. Now run by a hedge fund! What could go wrong?

WGIS

Started by living improv legend Will Hines, The World's Greatest Improv School is every bit as broke as they are talented. Don't miss the chance to learn at this school that means it. They CAN teach you to be a great improviser.
