Miami has a fantastic reputation as a happening and exciting city, but the learning and development needs for improv classes (either for team building workshops or professional development classes) of the corporations in Miami are similar to the needs you would find at companies anywhere in the United States.
Sometimes the need to develop talent within your team can become obscured by the pressures of event planning. And that is exactly what happened with one of my clients who asked me to come and lead a four hour improv comedy workshop during a large company gathering.
They had chosen Miami for its reputation, as a treat to all of their employees. They had a great location, a great message to deliver, a fantastic leadership team and unfortunately, one gaping hole in their agenda that they didn't know what to do with. Their solution?
Have me fill the entire gap with improv. And I wouldn't mind doing it! I love improv, so four hours of improv for me is kind of like a treat.
But for the uninitiated, four hours, four straight hours, of improv comedy exercises can be more than overwhelming. I explained this to my client but they seemed skeptical. Instead I offered them a 2-hour improv comedy workshop followed by a two-hour collaboration workshop that would focus on writing and generating stories in groups. A twenty minute break was scheduled in between these two sessions and everybody left happy.
For people who are unfamiliar with improv, anything more than 2 hours in a workshop can be daunting. I also think too short of a workshop can be problematic. At a minimum I would suggest an hour-long workshop, or you risk participants not really walking away with anything valuable.
Improv for business classes in Miami should be of the highest quality. By prioritizing quality and execution over expediency you can make sure that you Miami improv event is fantastic.
