Improv@Work

Two companies had merged and, as is often the case, a team of operations experts were now not getting along as well as everyone hoped. Based in New Orleans this powerful team of executives was struggling to find a new way forward with holdovers from each of the previous companies holding out for the way things once were. But change was afoot and nothing teaches you how to deal with change more than an improv class.
Agility improv classes are a specialty of The Radical Agreement Project. They're the only type of improv class in which I use Pass The Face as a warm-up exercise to kick the workshop off. It's kind of an intense exercise, but it's fun, playful and really hammers home the point that you can't know what's coming next, not in improv and not in life.
To play the game everyone stands in a circle. One person starts by making a face to the person on the right who then repeats it to the person on their right and so on around the circle. The requirement is that you not only repeat the face, you also exaggerate it.
Each person then, is exaggerating an exaggeration. It can get wild.
An interesting point is that many times people actually make the face smaller when they're trying to make it bigger. I suspect that this has to do with evolutionary biology - our brain telling us not to take too much of a risk lest we lose some social capital.
In any case once you work past that, the face will begin growing and growing out of control. Facilitated correctly, this exercise can kick your improv team building or agility workshop off with great laughter, great enthusiasm and a real sense that you're about to learn something.
That's how it went with my New Orleans client anyway and that's how it would go for you if you hire The Radical Agreement Project to bring an agility workshop to your office.
