Improv@Work

A corporate client based in Riverside, CA was excited for their first improv class with us, but they had one concern- “What do I tell my employees to wear??” and the question really got me thinking, so let’s talk about it!
There is no “uniform” for improv classes, but since improv requires a lot of movement- sitting, standing, crawling around like a baby dinosaur (you just never know!), it’s a good idea to wear clothes that allow for ANY type of movement! Personally, I’m comfortable in leggings, a t-shirt and sneaks. Other options are jeans that aren’t too restricting, skirts and dresses that aren’t too short (or wear little shorts underneath) and maybe a sweater or hoodie for those buildings that blast the AC.
Dressing in layers is always a good idea in case you get a little warm while you’re moving about! I recommend avoiding flip flops and high heel shoes as those can get caught up while you’re playing your baby dino role or skipping through the streets of Vienna. I’d also try to avoid any overly baggy clothes as those might get in your way of movement as well.
Breathable fabrics like cotton or athletic clothes that wick off moisture are also a good choice. You’re likely not going to be running a marathon in class, but these are things to think about when getting dressed for your next improv adventure, especially if you’re the type that gets hot easily.
The bottom line is- wear something comfortable that you can easily move in and won’t give you blisters. It’s hard to be funny when you’re in pain. Well, I guess that’s debatable but that’s another topic for another time! So put on your well-worn Nike 270s, your yoga pants and your Taylor Swift hoodie and get out there!
Or if you’re not me, put on something that suits your style!
Happy improvising!

Other Riverside Improv Spots!
Surprisingly there isn't that much improv available to residents of Riverside, easpecially given its proximity to Los Angeles... Come to think of it, that might offer an explanation (that LA ends up attracting most of the ikmprov energy away from Riverside). Still there are some options!
The Riverside Community Players
A fine community theatre that offers infrequent improv classes and even rarer performances.
