Content restrictions for live improv entertainment is one of the thorniest issues I deal with when arranging RA performances. I'll never forget that one of my first improv based engagements that I booked was in Sacramento in 2009 and carried wit it some of the most difficult content restrictions I've encountered.

it was for an improv show, not a workshop which is less common when I'm working with corporate partners. The people requesting this show had some very unique content restrictions. I'm not kidding.

Content restrictions are part and parcel when you're arranging comedy events. it's common for me to get questions about whether my material might be offensive from a traditional perspective: Cursing, societal ills and adult themed scenes might fall into the restricted category for people with such concerns.

More recently there have been the same concerns coming from people worried that a comedy event might be triggering from a progressive perspective: insensitive scenes featuring characters from marginalized communities or using words newly considered offensive.

But no one I've ever worked with has come even close to meeting the content expectations of the corporate show I arranged for in 2009 in Sacramento. The people arranging this show had a long list of activities that could not be engaged in or mentioned during the improv show. I'd be lying if I told you I remembered exactly what their concerns were, but I remember they were very specific and surprising.

It included things like no making sandwiches or using computers or hanging up posters in bedrooms. When I received the list I thought to myself this is really a lot, I'm not sure if the performers I'm working with are going to go along with it. But they did and the show was great.

I'm mentioning because many first clients worry that the improvisers I send to them will say or do something upsetting. You don't need to worry about that. I only work with very experienced improvisers and so much of our training is what not to do:

No fighting
No asking questions
No teacher scenes
No first day on the job scenes
No being coy

The list goes on and on. If we can easily edit ourselves not to do scenes that feature questions or posters being hung up in bedrooms, then we can easily provie a PG/PG-13 event for you and your colleagues!

We serve the greater Sacramento area, including Downtown Sacramento, Midtown Sacramento, East Sacramento, Land Park, Curtis Park, Pocket-Greenhaven, Arden-Arcade, Natomas, Elk Grove, Roseville
